Shark Heart: A Love Story by Emily Habeck

5.0

the first book to make me cry in years. a completely unassuming book and labeled as a love story, which is not my preferred genre. in fact, if a book is tagged as a romance, it deters me from picking it up or adding it to my TBR. but i decided to take a chance with this one and i’m SO glad that i did. the relationship between Lewis and Wren is BEAUTIFUL. it highlights the idea of complementing personalities and building a relationship full of trust and love, not just believing they sprout out of physical attraction. it made me think about my own relationship differently and placing value on what i truly find important. i thought the plot device of Lewis morphing into a shark was silly, but it allowed the author to create such a beautiful and adapting relationship between the two main characters while showing what is gained along with what is lost. bottom line, if my husband was turning into a great white shark in months, i would be just like Wren and learn to scuba dive immediately while opening up a pool for him in my backyard.
