When Mrs. Skibbe assigned us this book in 7th grade American History, I barely scanned it. My loss -- but maybe it's a story you appreciate more with age? This book is filled with humor, determination, memorable characters, life lessons, honor, grisly moments, and lots of grit. The audio version kept me exercising through a hot August when I didn't feel like it, being too gripped by the story to pull myself away. I feel a lot richer (and enjoy an improved heart rate) now that I have read this book.
