I think at this point, we should all accept that I am in love with this duology. Okay so let's discuss the plot first. This book follows Adaira and her struggle to fit in and settle in the west. It shows Jack being miserable without her. Then comes along the blight, a sickness that appears as a bruise on an infected area. Torin and Sidra, struggling to help their clan with this illness. As the book goes along, Jack finally plays for the fire spirits after the fire in Mirin's hearth goes out. Ash, Laird of the Fire spirits materializes and tells Jack that he needs to go west. And he does, but despite his great efforts gets captured by Rab Pierce(HATE HIM, EW, CREEP🤢🤢) and he has to fight his father in the culling. Adaira, not aware that Jack is in the west, is guided by Ash to find Jack in the arena where she puts a stop to the fight and claims him before her clan. The scene where Niall just sobs because he realised he almost killed his son, BROKE ME. The scene where Jack met his Nan, Elspeth, is soo emotional to me. The dinner scene where Jack meets his dad, properly, for the first time😭❤️. ALSO, ADAIRA GOING AFTER RAB BECAUSE "NO ONE HURTS THE ONES I LOVE" IS SO BADASS. SHE MADE HIM DRINK THE PPISON AND COLLECTED THE CRYSTAL BLOOD😍. Even Jack was like "Good luck RAB!".  Lmao, love them! I was grinning and smirking like some lunatic at that scene. Torin and Sidra being separated hurt😢 Just reading the scenes where they're away from each other made me tear up. Torin trying to communicate with her while in the spirit realm and his heartbreak when he realized he wasn't able to, pierced my heart. Sidra dealing with her blight infection and pregnancy alone😭😭. I didn't realise it in the 1st book but omg, Torin really changed for Sid. That warmed my heart♥️Also, how did Rebbeca Ross manage to both break and mend my heart in the last 50 pages of the book. I was bawling my eyes out when Jack was claimed by the spirits and given the crown. Reading Adaira's grief really didn't help my mental state, Becca. At that point, I was contemplating jumping off a bridge because, WHY, REBECCA, WHY? It hurt even more reading Frae's reaction. I was crying with her. My joy could not be contained when Jack returned back to the mortal realm to Adi. HE GAVE UP IMMORTALITY AND MUSIC FOR HER. HE CHOSE HER ABOVE ALL ELSE. I think the reason that means a lot is because throughout the book, I realised that she was scared of losing those she loved. She was very protective over them and, from what I saw, she hated that her whole life was built on a lie and I think she found comfort in Jack, in the fact that everything was real and truthful and vulnerable with him and I loved that. I love them!!!💕💕💞So, I conclusion, Jack and Adi are amazing precious darlings. Torin and Sidra are the cutest. Writing is exquisite. I loved the progression of the relationship with Adi and her parents. I think the dynamic between Innes and David is👌👌👌Additional; I loved the ending. The clan line going away, the isle being balanced, Kae being given the crown! AAAHH, I loved this book. (ps. Just thinking about Maisie's reaction to Sid's pregnancy; Frae's reaction to Jack returning home.. Heck everyone's reaction because I know that the news broke them. Frae's line made me sob "he promised me" 😭😭)
