Summer At Willow Lake by Susan Wiggs
This review covers all of the books in the Willow Lake series. First off, great marketing ploy to offer the first for free on the Kindle. Worked lie a charm on me and I got hooked and bought the rest. Smart move.
I'm really into series books this year for some reason. These light reads fit in perfectly and while they got a bit tedious at some points, I mostly enjoyed reading about the lives and community of Willow Lake. I really really REALLY want to visit Camp Kioga. Just wish it were a real place...
The main problem I had with these books was a pretty big one, in my opinion. There are numerous inconsistencies. It starts off in the second book, The Winter Lodge. Jenny's middle name is different . Then, throughout the rest of the series, little facts would differ from one story to the next. I can't remember which book it is at the moment, but there was one story that was different at the end of the book from the beginning. I understand that when writing a long series some stories may accidentally change, or change to fit the current story, especially when writing other books in between. But I don't find this to be acceptable. I remember one story of a first meeting, or encounter or some sort, that was different in a later book and it was obvious that the current story fit the current storyline better. But with just a slight tweak, it could have remained true to the original telling and not compromise the story. I don't exactly blame Wiggs, but her editors should be ashamed of themselves.
