Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble
by H.P. Mallory
This could have been worse but not by much. The writing was dumb and the author kept making the main character contradict herself (like, she would say that she's not one to hold back but then follow it immediately by her being embarrassed because she didn't hold back - ummm....no). And the disappearing best friend bugged me a lot. Also, I get that what happened to her is a major thing, but the person at the start of the book and end are complete opposites. If it had happened gradually I would be ok with it but it was literally "shy, timid, I'm not really pretty, and wow I could never be so bold" on one page to "hey, let's vamp it up and wow, I'm so gorgeous and isn't it cool that all these guys are suddenly falling at my feet" on the next. Too much too soon and it really made me dislike the main character. I definitely won't be continuing the series.
