The knowledge that there are sequels preempted my feelings about this book, to not come to conclusions too hastily. If I hadn't known about sequels, I'd initially have been hugely disappointed, this story didn't seem to actually have an ending. Upon further reflection though, I can see some of the themes that could have only took shape after reading the bookending.
Even before then though, I couldn't deny that I had a great time with the steady learning and mystery in the world building despite the depth of the scientific concepts being very wordy, and adding little. I'm unsure of where real science ends and where speculation begins since the story seems to be set in current day. I am certainly open to reading the sequels. I felt beyond immersed in this one.
