A Far Cry from Kensington by Muriel Spark

5.0

I was impressed by how well the book balanced tone. Over all, the book feels light-hearted and is often funny, but it also has it's dark aspects. Somehow the funny parts never cheapen the serious bits, and the serious bits don't stop it being funny. The characters feel real, even though they're not realistic; they're often peculiar and over the top, but not unsympathetic or jarring. I have a few more of Muriel Spark's books sitting on my shelf and waiting to be read, and I'm looking forward to them now.
