The Ballad of Never After by Stephanie Garber
5.0

“And it struck her how intimate words could be, how they could be spoken only once, for only one person, and they would never be heard again, they would disappear like a moment, gone almost as soon as you realised they were there.”

By far the best in the series, this book was EVERYTHING. The last 100 pages had me tearing my hair out with the twists and turns. Stephanie is damn good at throwing the plot twists at you right from the start in a sneaky little way, but then devotes a ton of time convincing you of the exact opposite as the story develops. I thought I’d sussed everything out on at least 10 different occasions, just for more spanner’s to be thrown in.

The writing (as always) is clever, imaginative and the very definition of enchanting. The magic is wonderful, each setting is brought to life by the word choice and I am desperate to find out how this story ends.

I won’t go into how I feel about Jacks, because I’ll be here all day, but I’ll just throw out there that he is the perfect villain. Evangeline irritates the hell out of me with how trusting she is, how easily she ‘forgets’ all the awful things people have done to her, and how SILLY her actions are (um, the arch? I mean seriously???). Despite all of that though, I still adore her. She’s the most kind hearted and optimistic FMC and I just want all of the good endings for her.

As much as I want to, I won’t discuss spoilers but I will say THAT ENDING!? Honestly, I’m shook. I was screaming, crying, wanting to rip the pages out of the book by the epilogue. Stephanie PLEASE!
