Blame It on the Tequila by Fiona Cole

5.0

This is probably my new favorite Fiona Cole book, except for Voyeur. I wasn't sure if this was a 4.5 or 5 stars. I decided to round it up to 5 because I thoroughly enjoyed this romance.

This is how second chance and friends to lovers should be written. I usually have a hard time with those tropes because authors will tell us how in love they are or how amazing their connection is... when I need to see them fall in love. This book had the perfect amount of flashbacks, where we see the mutual pining and building love.

This also has another one of my favorite tropes, stepbrother romance. Nova and Parker became step siblings when she was 16. She was an artist and he was in a band. They had such a great friendship, and they could not cross boundaries since they were step siblings. The book opens up where something bad happened, and Parker's band was getting signed or about to make it. They kind of leave her behind, and there is a 5-year time jump.

Nova does social media, travels, creates art, and writes songs for musicians. She is extremely private and refuses to show her face on social media. She ends up getting a job to help Parker's band write new songs during their tour. Parker is determined to get Nova back.

This was such an amazing slow burn and angsty book. I did think we learned about what happened to Nova too late into the book, and the ending felt a little rushed. I'm also not really into exhibitionism in my romances. I like the heroes to be possessive and touch her or you die. The sex scene was hot, but it would have made more sense if it was a poly or RH book.

I did love the rest of the band members, and how much they all cared about Nova. They were like a found family.
