I absolutely adored the first 40% of this book when they were Fearghus’ cave. It was just a lot of fun. I really loved Annwyl (The Bloody) as a main protagonist - she was rightfully angry and ready to hack and slash anyone in her way. Her bonding moments with Fearghus (in Dragon form) were also super sweet and fun.

Unfortunately, it did quickly just turn to sex sex sex which isn’t always bad but it just overshadowed the remainder of the book which is a really shame because I was enjoying it so much. And I don’t even necessarily mind the smut that much, my problem was more than it no longer felt like there was love involved (cringe, I know). My heart would skip beats in the beginning because of the yearning but then that just disappeared and Fearghus became a weird “grr, she belongs to me, I must brand her and also I can do shitty things to her but we’ll just have sex straight away so all will be forgiven”. I’m sorry, but I really couldn’t back that.

Chains & Flames: 3 Stars

I didn’t entirely care for this but that’s more to do with me having no interest in Fearghus’ parents. Nevertheless, the was pretty amusing throughout.
