THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING! NICOLAS AND AMELIA ARE EVERYTHING!!
That f*cking nickname. I should've known it would get me into trouble. With Amelia, ignorance is bliss; she has no clue what the term of endearment means or if she does, she doesn't care. Ma, however, knows. She knows intimately what it means because it's what my dad used to call her.
Nicolas Silva THE MAN THAT YOU ARE!!! *plays Whatta Man by Salt-N-Pepa* He set the book boyfriend standard HIGH. I mean, you want to talk about boy obsessed? THIS MAN HAS HAD A CRUSH ON HER SINCE HE FIRST SAW HER IN THE BAR SHE WORKS AT!? literally the first note I made on this app for this book, at 7% reading progress was 'I love a man who's down bad' and boy oh boy is Nicolas Silva down BADDDDDD.
I love him so so much - he's so loyal and cares so deeply about everyone, he gives off major dad vibes at times when it comes to their group of friends and i love him for that! The way he loves Amelia is just so frickin precious, he holds space for her and her feelings, he never makes her feel like she has to earn his affection or love or understanding; he's always waiting with open arms to be the safe space she needs.
She's ... light. She's literal sunshine. And it makes a burst of anger shoot through me because I know that for so long, she was with someone who did nothing but dim her.
Amelia my angel! I love and admire her strength so much, she's been through A LOT and while it may have damaged her, it didn't break her; even when she believed it had. She came out the other side stronger, and she learned to trust and love again and to believe that good things can happen and seeing her journey through it all was so heartwarmingly beautiful - the amount of times I teared up reading this book, especially Amelia's POV, is actually quite embarrassing considering I am a person who does not cry easily lol but Amelia was just that relatable a character - she is someone I will always root for.
and can we take a second to appreciate this whole friend group!? Cass had me wanting to bang my head against the wall in some moments but I love him regardless - he's the best big brother for Amelia! Kate and Luna might be the fiercest, most lovingly protective friends you will ever meet in your life and I wouldn't want them any other way - the three of them? That's a love story in itself <3 Ben and Jackson are just so freaking sweet - the golden retriever energy and sweet, quiet calm personalities, respectively, were the perfect addition to this big friend group of theirs and they are both such perfect characters; I can't wait to see more of them :)
And the epilogue!? It was so beautiful and bittersweet - I love that this book holds space for characters of the past (iykyk) without making it feel like the people from their past are overshadowing Amelia and Nick's story. It was a beautiful tribute to love lost, but never forgotten.
Nicolas and Amelia are the true definition of soulmates - their love is everything you could ever wish for <3 <3 <3
