Unmasking Autism: Discovering the New Faces of Neurodiversity by Devon Price

Devon Price does an excellent job of exploring the ways in which society has forced a stigma on autism so strong and imposing that even now it is often looked upon with scorn, disdain, and ignorance. He goes further than that, exploring the cost of autistic masking, how it results in burnout of the deepest and often harmful kind.
HOWEVER, Price is also careful to offer hope (and true hope, not just vague or amorphous 'keep your chin up' type), discussing ways of unmasking and being truer to our own selves can lift us up beyond that burnout. Asking for and, honestly, giving ourselves permission to receive accommodations can be a life changing (and affirming AND IMPROVING) experience. It isn't some magic fix. The world won't suddenly be accepting and drop their bias and prejudice, but finding the little ways we can be more ourselves and doing so publicly and within full view is an important step in making the world a far more open-minded place.
