A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

What the potato chip.

Someone very close to me told me that she hated this book, that she had nothing good to say about it. That it was "about an old man who is mean to his neighbors and has no character development and at the end of the book he is still mean."

And yeah, she was right. He was a mean, grumpy old man in the beginning and he was still grumpy at the end. But I think she missed the point.

This is a book about finding meaning in your life by living it for other people. It is about neighbors and the importance of being aware and involved in the lives around you. It is about growing old, and about young people connecting to the generations ahead of them.

It is about learning to care when you think you have nothing left to care about.

And yes, it is about a grumpy old man.

And is probably one of the best books I've ever read.
