This is the first graphic novel I've read by Kirkman and I was very impressed!

Outcast follows Kyle Barnes, a guy who can connect with and oust demons from possessed individuals. Both he and Reverend Anderson visit those individuals and attempt to exorcise the demon.

Now, this book is crammed with gritty and hard-hitting illustrations which you would expect from a horror graphic novel and some beautifully sharp and crisp dialogue which is always a pleasure to read, and adds another, rather crucial facet to graphic novel storytelling.

For me, the book had the right amount of suspense and gradually builds up tension throughout - I felt like I was being magnetically compelled to read on which is a great feeling to experience!

Some bits were definitely left murky which is only logical since this is the beginning of a series; for example, everyone suspects Kyle of beating up his daughter - an accusation he vehemently denies. I don't believe he did harm his daughter but he definitely did something bad to his wife, Allison. We also learn that the young Kyle's mom was possessed and would beat her son silly; although, he was able to force the demon out of his mother but this has left her in a vegetative state.

We are also introduced to a sinister guy who calls himself Sidney - of course we know that he is possessed and this is confirmed towards the end of the book in front of a bloody Reverend.

Kirkman has deliberately ended the story leaving the reader wanting more. It's a book about religion, faith, salvation, survival and family.

Outcast has simply hooked me into this demonic possessed world and won't let go until I've at least read volume 2.

So the powers that be, I urge you to let me indulge myself in the next thrilling installment of what can only be described as a captivating and gruesome read.
