Belle's Tale by Mallory Reaves
4.0
This is a dual review for Mallory Reaves pair of Beauty and the Beast manga novels ([b:Disney Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Tale|34739234|Disney Beauty and the Beast Belle's Tale|Mallory Reaves|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1490920574s/34739234.jpg|53443194] and [b:Disney Beauty and the Beast: The Beast's Tale|34749579|Disney Beauty and the Beast The Beast's Tale|Mallory Reaves|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1491073518s/34749579.jpg|53443195] respectively).
These are illustrated Tokyopop manga adaptations of the new Disney live action Beauty and the Beast movie. They are charmingly illustrated and do a nice job of translating the revised movie plot to the page. The books act as bookends to each other, each covering the same amount of time, but from opposite points of view (Belle's view in book 1, and Beast's view in book 2). There are some shared illustrations/panels from book to book, but each book still offers its own unique perspective and are more fulfilling when read in the paired sequencing.
I'm a huge Beauty and the Beast fan and also loved the movie. While these books did not offer any new insights or add any new plot twists (again, it's a straightforward adaptation), they did make me smile and are great for anyone who enjoyed the movie or who is just a fan of Beauty and the Beast or Disney manga.
I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
