Moon Rising
by Tui T. Sutherland
Pleasantly surprised by this one! I enjoyed the first arc of the series decently enough but starting the second arc wasn’t a big priority. Now that I’ve finished the first book of the second arc, I wish I’d read it sooner! The plot is more complex than I’d expected given the age of the intended readers, but still appropriately explained for them. This meant I was actually surprised at a few turns, which doesn’t often happen for me when reading middle grade books!
Since we get so much perspective from Moon, a mind reading dragon, every character feels well rounded and interesting. They have backstories and motivations that are briefly touched on, and I’m sure will be explained further. We get a nice taste of them here.
Overall I enjoyed this one even more than the first arc, and I’m definitely going to continue reading!
