Confess by Colleen Hoover

3.0

This book just didn’t come together for me. On the surface I found Auburn and Owen generally likable, but I did not find Auburn’s reactions believable at the end. Actually, the reactions themselves were believable but the writing of them were not. In general I just don’t like the first person emotional data dumps that happened throughout this book. It’s pretty jarring having paragraph after paragraph of “I feel this” and “I think that”. I think she has written this better in other books, so maybe this is a reflection of honing her style. Trey did not feel real to me, he seemed more like a character sketch. I do like the actual confessions and the use of Owen’s art to convey them. That felt unique and intriguing. I also found Adam’s parts, while small, compelling and sweet.

In summary, I like the idea of this book, it just didn’t come together for me.
