Can I say something controversial? This is Suzanne’s best written book BY FAR (I’ve yet to read Sunrise, so this is TBD). And is this a safe space to say…Coriolanus and Lucy Gray had way more chemistry than even Katniss and Peeta? And I’m an Everlark truther, believe me. This was just so well written, despite being in a psychopaths head the entire time. Perhaps well written BECAUSE it was from his POV. To write from a completely irredeemable characters POV will forever be impressive. But you cannot deny that Snow, to his core, makes up for ALL of the charm that Katniss lacks as an MC. An extremely hot take, I know.

I had already watched this movie prior to reading this, but I still enjoyed this so much. So many metaphors, so much irony, great callbacks. Some might think it’s too on the nose or maybe even fanservice, but I eat that shit up.

And now FINALLY I can read Sunrise and actually appreciate Suzanne’s books for the masterpieces they are without prior knowledge from the movies. Either way, Suzanne writes her ASSSSSS off when she’s got something to say, and this was no exception. Per usual, her stories ring extremely true for today’s current political climate (unfortunately for us). I’ve said before in my previous Hunger Games reviews, this should straight up be required reading. She discusses real, current issues and makes them palatable for young readers to understand. Not even young readers necessarily—this spells out in layman’s terms what is wrong with our country, our social system, etc. I won’t wax on about that, but I loved this!
