Flyaway
by Kathleen Jennings
There were flashes of brilliance - mostly the stories told by others - but this would have worked better as a short story. The characters were flat and the whole thing felt disjointed.
The descriptions are stunning - Jennings evokes the atmosphere of a small town haunted by some malevolent, mysterious nature magic.
But it felt like a series of vignettes rather than a coherent work.
