Harsh and biting. The book accurately captures the angst of growing up, not understanding your role in your new social arenas. It even describes the ennui of growing older and becoming cynical. Resigning yourself to be defined by your mistakes and the people you may have hurt along the way.

The story mixes the serious realistic settings with a child's whimsical perspective of morality and desire. The main characters, despite being drawn as cartoonish bird-like creatures, still convey a great range of emotion especially when the art style briefly draws them realistically during intense scenes. I'll definitely be continuing the series
