Undecided between a 4 and 5. Will round up to the 5. Have read a lot of horror books this year (57 so far), and this one scared me more than any of the others - largely because it feels like this is the direction men want us going in again (at least if I am hearing MAGA correctly) and because I think this was written partly in response to Betty Friedan's The Feminist Mystique. (Must reread that one asap!) More than either of these reasons though, is the fact that technology is being pushed to making it possible sooner than later (i.e., Elon Musk's tweet in April, "Indistinguishable-from-human robot companions will be mainstream in 15-20 years, and yes, you will be able to have sex with them. A housewife who never nags. Beautiful and customized to your taste. No one belittling ... the "disgusting" way you make love" - you know, the richest guy ever who will now be in charge of regulating all the regulators that currently regulate him and prevent him from going off the deep end without his digital ethics guardrails?, who I believe is smart enough, dark enough, evil enough, morally bankrupt enough, and weird enough to make it happen).

Watched the movie Don't Worry Darling earlier this year. I feel like that movie explained everything that we are left to assume in this book.
