Read this a few years ago. It's an epic. Unbelievably adventurous debut novel. I took it in sections to better take it all in & I think about it often.
Smith masterfully sets the stage for a generation-spanning puzzle which pieces itself together in the final act. She achieves what many have tried and failed to do, and she makes it look easy.
So far it has stood the test of time & I don't see it outdating itself any time soon.
Does it deserve spot #31 on the list? Without a shadow of a doubt.
