The Spectacular Now
by Tim Tharp
This book is confusing me. When I began the book I was like "Oh yeah this is good I see what everyone is talking about." But then halfway through the book I thought "maybe not 5 stars but still a solid 4." then as I was approaching 75% of the way through I just was not liking this book for some reason. I was really getting tired of Aimee's character. She came across so incredibly weak. I kept thinking "Why was the author making his co-lead so weak?" But then as I thought about it more I realized Aimee really wasn't a co-lead in this book. She was more of a supporting actress. When I thought about it this way I feel like i really had a new understanding of the book. And with this new understanding I brought my stars back up to 4. Sutter Keely is an incredibly dynamic character. You love him, you hate him, he annoys you, he makes you laugh… like I said… this book confused me. But then I thought maybe that is what makes a book great. If it confuses you and really makes you think about if you actually liked it or not.
There's no denying that this book, and Sutter Keely, is sticking with me.
