The Red House Mystery
by A.A. Milne
Who knew A.A. Milne wrote a novel? I was super excited to read this but found it a little tough to get into. There was a lot of description about where things happened and how the rooms of the house were arranged and how the gardens were configured, which makes sense given it all impacts the mystery. But I felt like I needed a map to figure out what was happening. I ended up starting this multiple times and finally just gave up on the idea of figuring out where I was supposed to be, and just enjoyed the story.
I did enjoy the main characters and their banter. The mystery was secondary to the humor and the dialogue for me. Mostly I enjoyed this because of the author and the new experience, but I can't say it was the most compelling story. Good for a fairly quick read if it captures your interest, just go with it and don't worry about the floorpan of the house. Just have fun with the sometimes goofy conversations and puzzle out the whodunnit.
