I was born in the year democracy returned to the Philippines. I am here to report its death.
i love the way the author structures the narrative and line of thought in the book; connecting parts from her life as a journalist, philippine history, the semantics of grammar, and the drug war itself. that’s what makes it such a compelling book to read. she’s very detailed and doesn’t hold back on the brutality of the drug war itself, she doesn’t make it a fantasy, nor a horror story—it was terror that had assimilated into normalcy.
