I both love and hate this about Emily Henry and her books - she writes such compelling FMCs and side-character relationships (friendships, family, etc) that the romance feels almost distracting. The only book of hers that really filled this cup for me is Happy Place, which I know a lot of people didn't like, so maybe I'm more of a platonic-familial-relationship reader than a romance reader? Who knows.
I did like the setting and the premise of Funny Story, and I thought Daphne and Miles were very cute together, but I kind of wish there had beenless of the will-they-or-won't-they. If they had gotten together earlier (which I think every other character would have been fine with because most of them assumed they were already together anyway?) there would have been more space for Daphne's impressive personal growth to shine and for her relationships with her parents and her friends (particularly Sadie) to be explored in greater detail. I will say I liked the final chapter of this book - it tied up the story nicely but didn't feel too "and then they all lived happily ever after."
Also, this is a very small complaint and didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book, but it could have used some more editing. Some of the phrasing felt awkward, and a character was referred to by the wrong last name at one point.
