The Golden Couple is a great mystery/thriller and a page turner!
Avery Chambers is a therapist who uses unconventional techniques with her clients. She recently lost her license, but she still practices as a consultant, using her unusual, guaranteed-to-work ten-step program on her clients.
Marissa Bishop calls Avery for help saving her marriage after she sleeps with someone while her husband is out of town. Avery meets with Marissa and her husband, Matthew and lays down the terms of her counseling engagement. She requires ten couple’s sessions – no cancelling and no tardiness allowed. And she gets complete access to their lives – no secrets from her. Commit to those terms and she guarantees success. Quite an unconventional process.
She knows every couple has secrets and after digging around into the Bishop’s lives, she isn’t surprised they have several. Part of mending their relationship is her finding those secrets and getting Marissa and Matthew to come clean with each other.
At the same time, Avery is still dealing from the fallout that resulted in the loss of her therapist license. Avery is an interesting character – part therapist, part detective – with the ability to get people to confide in her.
Both stories are suspenseful with twists and turns that surprised me. I had not read books by this team of writers but will be picking up The Wife Between Us by them next!
