The Unconsoled
by Kazuo Ishiguro
This may be one of the finest books I’ve read. I took forever to read it as it is entirely consuming in a way I have not experienced before. It’s about family and memory and the sacrifices we make for “success,” as well as the sacrifices we demand of each other. Definitely read if you’re in the mood to be absolutely devastated by one of the best authors writing right now.
