The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley

2.25

This was a book. I read it. I didn't enjoy most of it.
I think most of what bothered me can be boiled down to the story and characters feeling rather underdeveloped for most of the story which a) made Paris and the Parisiennes seem like French caricatures someone, who never set foot in the country, may imagine and b) Made the Thriller concept rather uninteresting because tbh for most of the book I didn't care whether the protagonist who didn't really have a lot of personality except the negatives she brought up all the time (not being cultured, not knowing french, not having a family or lots of charisma, ...) lived or died.
I also don't work the 1st person perspective works when all the Parisiennes who seemingly dislike everything non-French explain every turn of phrase and everything that's said in French. Similarly, I found it rather funny the little tour guide monologues some had in the beginning.
I also don't think most of the reveals had enough build up to be thoroughly enjoyed by the reader, they either came out of nowhere or were smellable from a few chapters away.

That being said it's a book. It's not terrible. I also don't think it's good. But at least the pacing picked up in the last ~100 pages or so, making it easier to finish it.
