The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead
3.0

Not bad but not the best thing I’ve ever read, I once again found myself getting bored

- This book was definitely dedicated to establish the romance between Adrian and Sydney, though it was lovely it got to be overwhelming
- getting to read from adrians perspective was nice but it didn’t add to his character in the way I wanted. His only personality trait was his love for Sydney. He doesn’t do anything for himself, everything he does is for her, while sweet we miss out on any character development. Because, if Sydney is gone, all of his attempts at bettering himself disappear because Sydney is his only driving force
- mead is great at ending books so you are drawn in for the next one, but all things are sorted at the start of the next book and then it gets boring. I feel like the whole book is just a set up for the ending rather than to enjoy the journey
- the plot was great but I wanted more of it! I felt like every two pages was just about Adrian and Sydney sneaking around. And I get that may be the main appeal of this series but I just found myself reading the same stuff over and over. The start was wonderful, when they were both trying to find away to stop spirit from having such an adverse affect on adrian, but after that I felt like I was just reading poorly written erotica
- I liked Sydney’s development, she is way more sure of herself and confident, but I would have loved to see adrian develop. Once again, his only personality trait is loving Sydney, I thought reading from his perspective would give me more of an insight into who he is as a character, but instead I just got more “I love her, I live for her, I die for her” stuff

⚠️spoiler⚠️

The ending just enhances this idea that Adrian is a character created for Sydney rather than a character on his own that we came to love from the vampire academy series. He breaks immediately, stays off his meds (I know he did so to try and find Sydney but it’s very evident he won’t go back on them) and starts wanting to drink, though I understand the love of his life was captured (though we all knew this was gonna happen at some point) he has no fire. He has nothing else but Sydney. And this may be meads desire, to have him develop in the next book, but I wish he had more personality. Let me clarify, he has heaps of personality but no drive, he only lives and breaths for Sydney, I just wanted more, more of a look into his love of painting, more of a look into his family relationship, and more of his past.

But all in all it wasn’t a bad book
