We go further into the overall shifter world with this book and I was thrilled about it!! Do I love the compound with the Phoenix pack? Yes of course! But do I love seeing how things work outside of the compound? Absofreakinglutely!
Makenna is a badass with a bleeding heart. She is selfless, determined to connect lone shifters with their families or new packs so they don’t have to suffer the loneliness and feeling of being incomplete like she has. Of course then we have Ryan, the emotionally closed off, tortured soul that has a soft side for kids and for … you guessed it, Makenna. They’re extreme opposites when it comes to faith in fate and belief in superstition, but Makenna can decode his grunts and huffs and they have an instant, undeniable connection even if she is uncertain — Ryan *knows*. He just needs to convince her.
The villain for this story is the perfect love to hate kind of sinister evil and the plot is another “hang on to your hats” kind of rollercoaster of suspense and emotion. The pack dynamics, the shelter dynamics, and the evil hijinks really made this one hard to put down. And like all the others, the steamy scenes are incomparable to other books.
