What Light by Jay Asher
2.0

The premise of this book sounded promising and I'm a sucker for just about any holiday book. Semi spoilers ahead... Maybe this is just the cynical part of me, but I had a hard time seeing Caleb just going along in life after taking a knife, chasing his sister up the stairs and stabbing his sister's door multiple times. Even though it was expressed thoroughly that he had no intention of physically harming his sister, it still strikes me as odd that mom just sent her away to live with her dad and casually kept on in life with Caleb at home. No mention of mental treatment or going to get help for his outburst. (I should explain this is coming from someone who has a family member first hand in a very similar situation in real life) I understand that the story was focused around forgiveness and I'm glad the characters were able to forgive and reconnect, but it just made it harder for the story to be believable, so once Caleb confessed the true story of the events I really started to digress in believing in this story and it became more difficult to stay focused through the end. I was hoping for Caleb's true event retelling to be something more believable and that the rumor had been something blown way out of proportion and misheard through the grapevine. The overall theme of forgiveness was very apparent in the end and I was glad for the reconnection of previous friendships.
