Once again I have my Goodreads friends to blame for making me read yet another series that I will now have to devote my precious time to reading. How many times must I bend to the will of my reading compatriots and suffer through discovering a fantastic series for myself? I have resisted beginning this series for long enough. Life is too short to put off what is bound to be time well spent.

If this first book is an indicator of the series (and I feel sure it is, even though it is the author’s debut novel), I will be spending some nice quality time among this new set of characters as they pursue justice in modern day rural Wyoming. I’ve also waited to see the TV series, just so I could read the books first, but these characters and setting are so real that it’s like I am watching a high quality show already.

The pacing of this novel is a little slower than I’m used to but it’s entirely appropriate to the plot and the setting. I think I was also reading it a tad slower than usual. It just seemed to deserve more attention somehow. As a person who was born in and now lives in the West, I can fully appreciate the nuances of the descriptive phrases and interacting cultures that are on display throughout this novel. I’ll definitely be reading more.
