We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

We Were Liars was a boring and a short read (thankfully). The characters didn't interest me and the plot was mediocre. There was nothing really going for the novel. Writing this now, I don't really remember much which says a bloody lot. I was interested in the family dynamics of the rich, white folk to an extent. There were some things that annoyed me about the themes, specifically race and class. I thought that the Grandfather's views had the opportunity to be more explored. I'm not necessarily criticising his or anyone's views, I just thought that it was underdeveloped, and I guess that's what I should have expected being a young adult novel.

The relationship between the main characters was also toxic. Despite the fact that Gat had limited time, he would dismiss or ask to dismiss arguments he had with Cadence. Mostly everyone seemed fake- all the daughters were the stereotypical unemployed housewives (except one). The writing style was also forgettable- with the broken sentences especially. I really don't understand why people could love a novel like this. It really baffles me.
