I hadn't read a Pendergast story in a long time and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed them. Pendergast is assigned a partner this time, against his will, to investigate a serial killer in Florida. As usual, Pendergast stays calm, composed and focused in all situations, including a swim through alligator infested waters. Also as usual you can't trick Pendergast; he quickly figures out the real reason he's been assigned a partner.
The story moves quickly and includes a bit of a surprise ending. It's very similar to other books in the Pendergast series, that is, a police procedural with southern charm so if you like the other books in the series you'll like this one.
