Rough Magic: Riding the World's Loneliest Horse Race by Lara Prior-Palmer
5.0
4.5*
I loved this book.
If I had any complaints at all it would be that I wish she had cut a few of the pages dedicated to her inner monologue and repurposed them to talking about Mongolia more. I would’ve loved to get a little bit more about her time in the country, not just her time in the race itself. She spent some time in Mongolia preparing for the race and must’ve spent at least a little bit of time there after. It would’ve been nice to experience some of that with her or to get a bit more information on her interactions with people (not race officials) at the various stops she made.
That said, what a fun, interesting story about an obscure, fascinating event. I will definitely be looking out for the next time they run this race because it really sounds like the experience of a lifetime.
“Endings fade, but the force behind a story lives on.”
