Jane, Unlimited by Kristin Cashore

2.0

I LOVE Kristin Cashore's Graceling trilogy, so I was beyond excited when she came out with a new book. I can't help but feel disappointed. This story, while an interesting concept, is very strange and a little confusing. I enjoyed the first two times the story was told, but after that it became so strange and unrelated to the rest that I had a difficult time understanding and enjoying it. They felt very out of place, and just kept getting weirder and weirder. By the fifth and final retelling, when she follows Jasper, I could hardly take the story seriously because of the nonsensical and unrelated world I was reading. Even after completing the book, I'm not sure that I know for sure what happened or what multiverse is the real one that Jane lives in. I would have enjoyed this a lot more if it had stayed a mystery novel with the missing paintings, spies, and the small pox plots, and that would have been the end.
