So much of this was really hard reading -- just some very painful stories. But it was very good and such an interesting way to weave through literally hundreds of years of history on two different continents. There were also some very interesting ways that gender intersected the narrative and, perhaps largely due to the format where almost every narrator's story was concerned with establishing them in a procreative relationship, heteronormativity.
