Rebel Witch by Kristen Ciccarelli

adventurous emotional tense medium-paced

4.0

I literally FLEW through this to finish it for our book club call. I had to read Heartless Hunter as well this month, so it’s all pretty fresh.

Someone in our club heard the author speak and she said she was planning a trilogy, but her publisher made it a duology. I wish it was three books and I think it all could’ve been stronger for it.

It’s a really rushed, underwhelming conclusion that deserved much more space, in my opinion.

I still loved the dynamic between our couple. I haven’t read anything else like it.

I’ve seen other reviewers complaining about how obvious twists were in both books. I’m not usually one to clock them, but I had this book figured out much more than normal. I wish it would’ve subverted my expectations a little more.

Like the first book, I didn’t have strong enough emotional reactions/ties for it to be a 5, but I truly enjoyed both books and would read more from this author.

Recommendation: For fans of upper-YA romantic fantasy with a push and pull enemies-while-lovers relationship
