Old Yeller
by Fred Gipson
Pg 1. "He made me so mad at first that I wanted to kill him. Then, later, when I had to kill him, it was like having to shoot some of my own folks." Very straightforward. Tells you exactly what your getting... What kind of book am I reading??
Pg. 7 "Then he'd had to go act a fool and get himself killed." Did, did he now?
Pg. 60 " After that, I couldn't do enough for Old Yeller... What if he did fall over and yell bloody murder every time I looked crossways at him?" :)I love that dog:)
Pg. 81 "And of course he'd smell so bad that I couldn't stand him and have to go off and try to sleep somewhere else. Then he'd follow me and get his feelings hurt because I wouldn't let him sleep with me." Don't blame him; I wouldn't either.
Not as vivid scene of death as The Yearling, but still a painful event. I'm so fond of the ending! Not really sure why some people rant about not liking this book. It might not be a favorite but still well written and toned.
