Las batallas en el desierto by José Emilio Pacheco
4.0
A novella that's worth reading. It's set in Mexico in the 60s, and it shows the changes that go through the old Mexico —a Mexico that's never going to be again—, and the new Mexico. Mentions of the culture at the time, of what was life like in those times (the good, the bad, the ugly), reading it felt like remembering myself.
The writing was simple, and it makes sense because a kid is narrating the story, but don't let that fool you, it's not bad writing.
It really shows the way adults can't (or won't) comprehend children, projecting themselves and their prejudices onto them.
