A dystopian novel that focuses on the immediate chaos that follows a major world shift, I found this series to be a wonderful insight into how people react to their lives being turned upside down. Survival and pack instincts are superbly written, and the environment provides plausible reasoning for these instincts to kick into overdrive. Maintaining a group of characters adds layers of depth that help you to see just how difficult it can be to retain humanity in exigent circumstances, and leaves you rooting for the characters to not just survive, but survive with their pre-catastrophe morals still somewhat intact.

This book surprised me with how quickly I found myself reaching for the next in the series, and then the next and then surprised me again with how much I want the 4th book to be released! Although a group of high schoolers isn't my preferred set of characters, I found even the cheerleaders relatable and likable within a few pages. Highly recommend this series. Very much anticipating the next installation, and looking forward to reading the books in related series!
