This book is sticky and sweet like a huge pile of pancakes with syrup and butter. It wants to be savoured, pulled apart piece by piece. I love everything about it—Jane and August, the rest of the mismatched main cast, the writing, the romance, the friendship, the music. God. I bow at CMQ's feet, and I owe whatever gay gods have blessed me to receive my copy over a week before publishing big time.
This isn't simply a book, not just a romcom, no. It's a religious experience, a love letter, a promise. CMQ ripped my heart out, made it double, if not triple in size, and then put it back in my chest, dusted in glitter and gold and frosting from a strawberry milkshake pop-tart.
EDIT: Since finishing this book, I have talked a lot about it with friends and others who have read this book and I have become more critical of its content. Which doesn't diminish my overall enjoyment of it but I do feel like I need to lower my rating.
