I liked Trust more. The western, roaming, wilderness doctor isn't something I'd usually seek out. 

The writing was solid, very vivid -and considering much of the story is him alone in a desert, cave, or prairie - and engaging.

Not as dark as Blood Meridian but in the same vein.
