What an oddly fascinating book this was. If you read about The Stranger online, everyone talks about how it’s absurdist existentialism, and about how life has no meaning and nothing matters, etc., etc. I guess it could be that. But in that case, I find it completely uninteresting. The way I read it… Our main character is on the spectrum and he can’t grasp the importance of what’s going on around him. It’s almost the polar opposite of what I think this book is supposed to be about, but that is absolutely how I felt reading through this classic. If I missed the boat, and this is an existential exercise on the meaningless of life, I didn’t like it. If I’m right in my opinion, that this is a story told through the eyes of someone on the spectrum, I was transported. My opinion really is in a tug of war. Because of that, I need to give it a middle of the road review.
