The Shining by Stephen King
DID NOT FINISH

Okay, so The Shining and I had a bit of a... complicated relationship.
Picture this: me, curled up on the couch, blanket over my head, determined to dive into this "classic horror masterpiece." Everyone and their neighbor's cat told me, "You have to read this, it's iconic!" So, naturally, I thought I was about to be scared into a whole new personality.

Spoiler alert: I was not.

I really tried, you guys. I gave it my best. I read late at night. I read with spooky soundtracks playing in the background. I even whispered “Redrum” to myself for dramatic effect. But after a while, I just felt like I was dragging myself through a snowstorm of... meh.
The Overlook Hotel is creepy, sure. Jack is spiraling, Danny's got his spooky shining powers, there's an evil bathtub lady — and yet, I felt like I was standing outside the story, pressing my nose against the frosty window, wondering, "Is something exciting gonna happen soon?"

Maybe I’m just not the intended audience. Maybe my brain needs more chaos, less slow burn. Maybe I’m just a chaos gremlin at heart who craves a little more bam-pow and a little less existential dread buildup.
Either way, this ended up being a DNF (Did Not Finish) for me. I quietly closed the book, patted it gently like, "It’s not you, it’s me," and moved on to greener, spicier pastures.

Stephen King, you're a legend. But me? I think I’ll just watch the movie next time. (And probably still hide under my blanket because Jack Nicholson’s "Here’s Johnny!" will haunt me forever.)

Rating: ❄️/5 — Too cold for this little chaos gremlin.
