And Then You by Briar Prescott

5.0

Such a beautiful story! I was hesitant to read it or not, because after having read Until You, I was afraid that it would not meet my expectations. And I have to say... this one not only met them, but exceeded them!

Right at the beginning, we receive a punch in the gut when the tragedy that marked Steph from his adolescence to the present is revealed to us, and it is downright painful. Since then, he is simply a shell, half-living and surrounding himself with an armor full of invented stories to hide the pain he carries and how empty he feels. And at first Quinn seems like the exact opposite of him. Where Steph's always joking and laughing, evading truths and trying to keep everyone at an arm's length, sometimes even including his two best friends, Blair and Jude, Quinn seems too serious and uptight. Too cocky. But all of this hides someone who was hurt and has a hard time trusting again, someone who also hides his vulnerability, although he is willing to face his fears or distrust if he finds that someone who is worth it. And it seems that someone is Steph.

Situations happen, and, omg, there are moments where Steph's nonsense is hilarious and you find yourself crying with laughter, but soon, all the pain that he has encapsulated comes out again, and you can't help but suffer for him. And although as I said, at first it seems that there is nothing in common between them, little by little Quinn is breaking down the walls that surround Steph, with his dry humor, his stability and reliability. He is patient, and wraps around Steph with strong, loving arms that show him that he will be there when Steph falls again, and soon they finds out they do have some common ground.

As I said, a beautiful, beautiful story that lacks nothing. It's fun, it's romantic. It is painful and distressing. The hot moments are really HOT but also full of love. None of the times they are together are meaningless. Not even the first time. Quinn makes sure Steph notices the difference. Well, as you can see, I just loved this story!
Highly recommended.
