Becoming: Genre, Queerness, and Transformation in NBC's Hannibal by Kavita Mudan Finn, EJ Nielsen

challenging informative slow-paced

5.0

Super Informative! The essays were kind of mixed, though I still enjoyed them. A couple I found overly complicated (what are you actually saying with those big words?), and others could’ve been a little tighter to avoid straying from their own point. but overall a fantastic collection. I came to this collection for the queerness and ended up being equally (if not more) interested in the meta-essays about the show and its fandom; the role that food plays in fannibal culture or the way NBC’s Hannibal functions as a transformative work of fanfiction, for example.

Also, I love the Bedelia essay because she’s such a mysterious character and is so hard to read in canon, but nonetheless holds such an important role in the show’s mythology.

I definitely recommend this to any NBC Hannibal fan who enjoys tumblr-styled meta with a healthy dose of actual meta commentary.
