Some lovely short stories and I enjoyed the threads running through them...different characters appearing in multiple stories. Not all of them likeable but all well-portrayed and certainly interesting. Descriptions of Magadan and other towns are vivid and really give the reader a sense of what it’s like to live out in the far east of the country. I also learnt plenty about the Gulags and life under the Communist Party in Russia. A good, thought-provoking read.
