Juniper Unraveling by Keri Lake

This was the first book I've read from this author and I can't remember if I saw a recommendation for it on a Facebook reader's group or TikTok but let me say it was RIVETING! I went into it fairly blind and I'm glad I did. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where there is a community that is kept in relative safety, unaffected by the happenings outside their walls. However, behind this illusion of security are dark secrets, depravity, torture, and human experimentations all in the excuse of finding a cure or that others not part of this community were inferior. There are strong themes of bravery, survival, human nature, and sacrifices in this book and it weaves in the right amount of psychologically twisted content. While the author doesn't shy away from mature themes and dark storytelling, it never felt gratuitously exploitative, in fact, it felt quite realistic. Every moment served a point, either to drive the character or drive the plot. Each character was brilliant to read about in their own ways! My only dissatisfaction is that the book isn't longer so I could read more of Six and Wren...
